Non-Resident Clients

No time is a good time to be arrested. But one of the worst times is when you are just passing through. If you or a loved one has been arrested while visiting Atlanta or the many cities and municipalities in the surrounding area, you need someone familiar with state and local laws and procedures to guide you. Whether you are out on bond or you have a loved one that is currently in custody, call me and we’ll discuss what your options are, and the best way to help you.

For over 21 years I have represented people from all over the country who have been arrested in Georgia while traveling for work, or for play, or just visiting family and friends. I have experience representing non-residents on crimes ranging from traffic offenses and charges such as disorderly conduct, to the more serious misdemeanors like DUI, battery, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and even on felony offenses.

It is very common for people to visit Georgia and get into trouble and then forget that they were required to appear in court. The failure to appear (FTA) results in a bench warrant. Oftentimes, this is reported to the Georgia Department of Drivers Services. The DDS will then suspend a person’s driving privileges in Georgia. If this has happened to you, your driver’s license in your home state could be in danger of being suspended. You need to act now so that we can avoid any negative consequences from missing court.

The goal in these cases is always to act so as to avoid you suffering the inconvenience of traveling back to Georgia to resolve your case. This is possible, and even common, for most traffic offenses and many misdemeanors. It is also possible for certain types of felonies, although less common. We do this with a procedure called a Plea in Absentia (plea in absence). I have helped many people resolve their cases through this process.

Where and when you were arrested or ticketed, the nature of the charge, and when you have court are very important to know. However, many times people do not remember one or more of these key pieces of information. In most of these instances I can investigate your case to determine the best course of action. Once I have found the answers I need, I can contact the prosecutor assigned to your case and begin to negotiate the fairest resolution, making sure they don’t take advantage of you.

Hiring the right person when you are charged with a criminal offense is the most important decision you’ll make. I understand how helpless and out of control not living in the Atlanta area but facing charges here can make you feel. I also understand that quick action is necessary to give you that peace of mind, knowing that an experienced lawyer with knowledge of the Georgia justice system is taking care of you. Don’t hesitate to call me now or fill out the form for a quick response.
